Day-by-day journal of a break-through covid experience

Almost two years into the pandemic, vaccinated but booster-due, I finally met COVID. I knew it was going to happen eventually. While still avoiding things like bars, concerts and crowded events we were seeing a core group of friends regularly and, alas, one of the friends had COVID and most of us got it (8 out of 12 got it with mild-moderate symptoms, all but one child were vaccinated).

My husband, who had just had his booster 3 weeks prior, felt tired, had a little cough, felt a little dizzy, went to sleep and woke up totally fine. Thank you Pfizer!

It is taking my body longer to deal with COVID and I believe it's due to being overdue for a booster shot (it had been over 6 months since my second shot of Pfizer). I had planned to get the booster the week I got COVID!

I had almost a week of cold symptoms with body aches. Note that my antigen test results were negative until 6 days after exposure even though I already had significant symptoms! Same for the others in our group! Below is a day to day journal if you are interested. I had just gotten the Oura ring a couple weeks prior. While it was still "learning" my baseline I was surprised how spot-on it's been through the covid experience. It sent an alert to pay attention I might be getting sick citing elevated resting heart rate and temperature the day I got sick and guided me through the days suggesting rest mode, stretching, etc.

While I didn't feel terrible I was bound to my bed exhausted after bathroom visits or making a cup of tea. That exact state when your mind is well enough to do stuff ... I was so impatient to get better! I started reading up on remedies and came across heat therapy as a potential. Here is a link to the article I read incase you are interested.

Since I had access to a steam shower and was already a fairly regular user and knew that I can handle the steam fairly well and wasn't sick enough to risk passing out/having a heart attack I decided to give it a try. I felt so much better immediately after and woke up feeling better the next morning! I do believe I was already on the mend and the steam shower played a supportive role rather than it being a COVID miracle cure, but can see the potential as a helpful treatment! Heat kills germs and helps immunity on the cellular level. If you don't have access to a shower consider the tried and true head in a pot of herb infused steaming water with a towel over your head and the pot inhaling the steam. This was a staple in my childhood in Austria when we had colds. It really helps!

While I did not experience a loss of taste or smell, my appetite was almost non-existent even to this day! I was incredibly thirsty, still am! I lost about 10 pounds, and while it's the furthest thing from my mind right now, this did take off the extra holiday pudge and improve my bikini figure for when I'm ready to step into my Pepper Swimwear bikinis again to play beach volleyball. I cannot wait - but somehow feel this is weeks away!

If you have COVID reading this I hope you feel better soon. Below is a day by day journal of my symptoms if you want to compare and contrast. If you are concerned about getting worse, you can monitor your blood oxygen level with a $15 blood oxygen monitor (finger clip) from the drugstore or Amazon. It can help prevent getting help too late!

Sending healing vibes to all. Sibylle xx
